2025 Ryder Cup

The bet: The Tie - £4 @ 13/1

What happened:

Europe took the opening foursomes 3-1 then followed up with a 2.5-1.5 advantage in the fourballs to lead 5.5-2.5 after day one.

3-1 wins for Europe in both formats on day two to stretch the lead to 11.5-4.5. That became 12-5 when Viktor Hovland pulled out of the singles with a neck injury so was given half a point along with USA 'envelope' man Harris English.

The incredible US fightback in the singles actually made the tie look like a possibility but in the end Europe won the cup 15-13, and that's good too.

2025 Open Championship

The bets:

£2.50 ew - John Rahm @12/1 (8 places)
£2 ew - Ludvig Aberg @25/1 (8 places)
£2 ew - Justin Rose @ 40/1 (10 places)
£2 ew - Russell Henley @ 50/1 (10 places)
£2 ew - Marco Penge @ 90/1 (10 places)
£1 ew - Xander Schauffele @ 25/1 (8 places)
£1 ew - Adam Scott @ 55/1 (10 places)
£1 ew - Harris English @ 80/1 (10 places)
50p ew - Sungjae Im @ 100/1 (12 places)

(A fifth the odds for each way terms)

What happened?:

Let's pick things up at the halfway point where Scottie Scheffler has set the pace with a score of ten under.

English is our best-placed selection, joint-fifth at five under
Schauffele, Rose and Aberg are all at two under, tied for 17th
Henley, Im and Rahm are level par, tied 34th.

Penge and Scott missed the cut.

Onto 'Moving Day'...

Scheffler moved into a clear lead, his 14 under total four strokes clear of the field. We're probably playing for place money with...

-8 English (T4)
-7 Schauffele (8)
-6 Henley (T9)
-5 Rose and Aberg (T14)
-4 Im (T22)
-2 Rahm (T34)

Scheffler closed out the win with a 17 under final score.
English followed him home four shots behind (for £17)
Schauffele finished 10 under for joint-seventh (£4)
Henley was a shot further back in joint tenth (£5.50)
Rose (-7, T16), Aberg (-6 T23), Rahm (-3, T34) and Im (Even, T52) all finished outside the place money.

The £26.50 nearly covered the bet!

England v India - 2nd Test

The bet: England to win £2 at 22/1

What happened:

A speculative couple of quid on the thought that England could chase down 600+.

That didn't come off - let's move on.

2025 US Open

The bets:

Scottie Scheffler £5 win @13/5

Colin Morikawa £2 ew @20/1 (10 places)
Sam Burns £2 ew @ 50/1 (10 places)
Cam Young £2 ew @ 70/1 (10 places)
Harris English £1 ew @ 55/1 (10 places)
Ludvig Aberg £1 ew @20/1 (8 places)
Joaquin Niemann £1ew @ 25/1 (8 places)

What happened:

Tough course!

Aberg and Niemann missed the cut, while English made the weekend by a single shot.

Morikawa, Young and Scheffler were all at four over which has good enough for =23rd place.

Those three were seven shots behind the leader Sam Burns.

Burns took the lead into the final round but couldn't cope with the weather and slipped to four over, tied seventh, five shots behind winner JJ Spaun. Scheffler also finished on four over, Morikawa was eight over (T23rd) while our best-placed selection was Cam Young at three over.

Young and Burns each-way money put £52 in the pot.

2025 US PGA Championship

The bets:

All £2 e/w, 1/5 odds

10 places

Justin Thomas 16/1
Ludvig Aberg 22/1

12 places

Patrick Cantlay 25/1
Tommy Fleetwood 28/1
Jordan Spieth 35/1
Max Homa 100/1

Placed by: P

What happened:

Thomas (+3), Aberg (+3), Cantlay (+6) and Spieth (+2) all missed the cut.

Homa was best placed after two rounds at five under, three off the pace, with Fleetwood a further three shots back.

World number one Scottie Scheffler took control on day three, racing to 11 under, three shots clear of the field. Homa (even) and Fleetwood (+2) have work to do to make the places.

On the final day Homa faded to six over for =60th place, Fleetwood fared a little better, two over for a share of 41st. No return.

2025 World Snooker Championship

The bets:

£5 win Judd Trump @ 18/5
£1 e/w John Higgins @ 14/1
£1 e/w Ding Junhui @ 28/1

Placed by: P

What happened:

Ding bowed out in round two - on the wrong end of a Luca Brecel masterclass.

Higgins exited in the quarters, going down in a final ball, final frame classic against old rival Mark Williams.

The Welshman also accounted for our main choice, Judd Trump, 17-14 in the semis.

(Williams lost in the final to Zhao Xintong - our choice for the 2022 tournament)

2025 US Masters Golf

The bets:

17/1 Bryson DeChambeau - £2.50 ew eight places
23/1 Shane Lowry - £2.50 ew twelve places
45/1 Akshay Bhatia - £1.50 ew twelve places
55/1 Patrick Reed - £2.50 ew ten places
110/1 Nicolai Hojgaard - £1 ew twelve places

Placed by: P

What happened:

Hojgaard missed the cut and Bhatia just scraped through to the weekend righty on the cut mark.

After three rounds, DeChambeau was in second on 10 under,  two behind leader Rory McIlroy. Reed was tied for fourth six back and Lowry was tied for sixth a stroke further behind. (Bhatia was joint last of those that made the weekend at five over.)

Lowry struggled to an 81 on the final day and finished +4 for the tournament, the same mark as Bhatia.

DeChambeau briefly led but fell away to finish tied fifth on seven under.

Reed got closest to eventual winner McIlroy. His final round 69 lifted him to nine under and third place, two shots behind the winner.

All that put £41 in the pot.

2025 UK Open Darts

The bets: (placed ahead of the the last 32 stage)

£1 e/w Jonny Clayton @ 22/1
50p e/w Ryan Joyce @50/1
50 p e/w Martin Schindler @ 60/1

What happened:

All three made the last 16 but Clayton and Schindler drew each other, the Welshman coming out on top. Joyce ran into a rampant Luke Humphries and went down 10-2.

Clayton was beaten 11-6 in the semi-finals by eventual champion Luke Littler.
